View All Services

Cosmetic bonding is a corrective dental treatment that is used both to keep the functionality of the affected teeth and for cosmetic purposes. Bonding involves the use of tooth-colored resin to repair chipped teeth, remove spaces between teeth, lengthen teeth, change the shape of teeth, fill in cavities, cover the surface of stained teeth for whitening purposes, and protect the roots of exposed teeth that due to receding gums. It is one of the most versatile, affordable, and popularly done dental procedures.

Forever Smiles Turlock in Turlock, CA provides cosmetic bonding as a solution for dental conditions that only need minor treatment.

What Takes Place During Bonding?

Bonding can be done during one dental visit. However, if many teeth need to be bonded, several visits may be required to complete the treatment. After inspecting the suitability of bonding for your teeth, your dentist will refer to a shade guide to select which resin color matches the color of your natural teeth.

Next, etching will be slightly done on the surface of your tooth to roughen it, so that the bond will more easily take hold. After clearing away residual debris from the etching, dental conditioner is placed on your tooth to ensure adhesion of the bonding material further.

When ready, your dentist will apply the tooth-colored resin, molding and smoothing it until it is in the correct shape. Ultraviolet light is then used to make the resin hard.

More molding and shaping may be done as necessary. The whole procedure typically takes one hour for each tooth that is cosmetically bonded.

Why Bonding is Well Accepted by Patients

Unless it is used to fill in cavities, bonding will not require the use of anesthesia. It is a relatively inexpensive and simple procedure to perform, which does not significantly limit or inconvenience patients and their day-to-day routines.

Bonding also lasts long, provided the bonded teeth are not subjected to dental trauma or abuse such as repeatedly chewing on ice. When well taken care of like natural teeth, teeth that have been bonded may last for many years. Bonded teeth may require a touch-up only after your dentist notices some chipping on the resin.

Your dentist will recommend cosmetic bonding as long as it is suitable for your teeth. For your consultation, please callĀ (209) 500-1234. Our office is located at 1850 Colorado, Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
